Baltimore’s Highwire Improv Ready for Third Season
Baltimore-based Highwire Improv will open its third season of virtual programming on Monday, May 3, with nearly 80 groups from around the globe scheduled to perform. The season will stream on Highwire’s YouTube channel through July 24.
Each Highwire season runs 12 weeks with daily shows streamed live and also available for on-demand viewing. Since launching in November 2020, Highwire has streamed more than 350 hours of content.
For the second straight season, Highwire will partner with the Maryland Improv Collective and Black Improv Alliance to present Black Joy Fridays, dedicating every Friday night solely to Black performers.
The important partnerships Highwire has developed over the past six months will grow when they take part in the second “Everybody Get in Here Festival” June 4-13. This online event brings together more than a dozen U.S.-based and international improv organizations in a celebration of comedy unity.
Highwire also continues to provide education opportunities, including the organization’s first-ever classes for kids taught by Baltimore educator and improviser Jonathan Monroe. Canadian teacher and performer Velvet Wells will return for his Singin’ Saturday workshops on the second Saturday of each month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Singin’ Saturdays has unlimited scholarships for BIPOC performers.
