What is Extra Credit?

Extra Credit is a show produced by Highwire Improv to bring our students and teachers together.

How do you get picked for Extra Credit?

We regularly contact students about upcoming Extra Credit shows. We choose performers based on availability, making sure we get as many people on stage as possible. If we have more students than available spots, we will choose those who have had fewer opportunities to perform. Teachers are chosen based on availability for each show.

What do we do in an Extra Credit show?

Each show will be organized a little differently. Sometimes we will do long form. Sometimes we will do short form. Sometimes we will do both. The main goal is making our students look good on stage.

Do I have to attend practices?

No, that’s the awesome part! We do ask performers to come a little early so a teacher can go over the structure of the show, everyone can go over their boundaries, and the group can warm up.

What will happen after Extra Credit?

The students on the team will receive notes from an assigned teacher who will watch the performance. This will typically take place after the show in person. Also, Extra Credit is a paid performance opportunity like all of our shows. So you will receive a portion of the team’s payment for that night. We currently pay $45 per team for a 30-minute set. Highwire leadership will manage that payment so you will be contacted after your first Extra Credit show to facilitate the payment.

Can I play with (insert friends’ names) in Extra Credit?

We cannot guarantee placement with specific performers, but we may be able to accommodate this depending on the lineup that night. Part of the goal is getting students used to performing in different combinations with a teacher as a supportive teammate to facilitate good habits on stage. Our hope is that as you do more Extra Credit shows (and Thursday Club jams), you will find the people you enjoy playing with a start to form your own teams.

Thursday Club? What’s that?

The Thursday Club is a weekly improv jam providing performers of all experience levels a chance to perform together in a community-based atmosphere. The structure of the event will fluctuate from week to week, but it will always start at 7 p.m. and will give people a chance to get on stage and meet new people in a supportive environment.

Can I have an example?

Sure! One week, we might do short-form games. One week, we might focus on a specific skill. Another week, we might break people into larger teams for a longform jam. But each week, we will have time to hang out, go over boundaries before we perform and do some fun improv.

How much does this cost?

Nothing! Thursday Club is completely free. We may even provide snacks!

Are there any attendance requirements?

No, the Thursday Club welcomes all whenever they can make it. We know people have busy schedules and want to have one time each week they know they can come get on stage just for fun.
