It's time to get to know some members of the Highwire community!  Based on the classic improv warmup, here's Five Things With... Jonathan Monroe!

About Jonathan (he/him)

Jonathan is a middle school technology teacher and student adviser.  With Highwire Improv, he teaches Fundamentals of Improv Level 1, 2, 3, and 4, and plays with the team Important Screws.

Five Things with Jonathan!

  1. What Lights You Up About Improv?  I love getting a chance to create and discover with other people.  I got into improv because I love comedy and it felt like a good first step.
  2. What's Your Favorite Improv Game or Form?  New Choice (aka Ding): in this game, two or more improvisers do a scene, and at any time the host can interrupt by saying 'New Choice,' after which the last action or line must be replaced with a new choice.  Very fun for audiences to see even experienced performers get pushed to new frontiers of creativity.
  3. What's Your Wildest Improv Memory?  Once, my middle school students did a whole scene that was about “special” brownies that made everyone smell colors…it front of their parents.
  4. If you could pick one special touch for The Highwire Center, what would it be? No limits, no guarantees :)  A two seater balcony spot to allow two people in between sets the ability to give a quick opinion about the show…see The Muppet Show.
  5. Highlandtown is full of amazing businesses - restaurants, artists, local entrepreneurs, and more. Where are we likely to see you before or after an event at the Highwire Center?  Matthew's Pizza!

Any closing thoughts?

I'm hoping one day a student makes it big and remembers me! Jonathan with a troupe performing at Stevenson Night Live!
