Barry Wright (he/him) is an improviser, teacher, and technology professional. He is a co-founder of Highwire Improv and currently serves as President of the Board. He has trained in improv since 2017, including at Highwire Improv, Baltimore Improv Group, Hoopla Impro, and in numerous online workshops. He performs with many ensembles including ImprovScape, Improv Jeoparty, Topiary, Important Screws, Whatever This Is, Sandcats, and Dreamweaver. Barry lives with his wife Kristen and their three cats and is always happy to chat about improv or start a Google Doc.
As a coach, Barry focuses on developing forms, working agreements, and group alignment around how to play, and can deep dive on a wide range of topics including openings, forms, A to C thinking, group agreement, theme, dramatic improv, and closing shows.
Barry’s coaching style really worked for our team. He was able to determine what we needed to do in order to bring our shows to the next level. He designed thoughtful practices that targeted our specific goals—all the way from the warmups to the debriefs at the end of practice. Barry is always prepared, on time, and he knows how to get down to business while still allowing us some wriggle room for the fun. He created a safe and growth mindset oriented space where he pushed us to ‘swing big’ and grow, both as a team, and as individuals. I highly recommend him as a coach!
