Scheduling Philosophy

We’re creating space for independent voices.

At Highwire Improv, we believe the best comedy happens when performers have the freedom to bring their own ideas to life. That’s why we produce shows exclusively for independent teams and producers—no house teams, no strict formats, and no gatekeeping around how you create.

Instead, we offer structure and support through a seasonal model that keeps things flexible, collaborative, and accessible.

Seasons Built Around You

We schedule performances in 3-month-long seasons, each with its own submission process. If you have a show in mind, whether it’s a team you’ve worked with for years or a brand-new concept, you can submit it for consideration.

If you’re new to performing with us, we may ask for a video of a previous performance or schedule a brief conversation to get a better sense of your show. This isn’t about judgment. It’s about making sure we find the best home for your performance within our schedule.

Once submissions close for a season, we’ll create the overall schedule, curating shows that complement one another to create a great night for performers and audiences alike. You’ll get your performance dates about a month before the season starts, giving you time to promote and prepare.

Most Baltimore-based teams can expect 2–3 shows per season, depending on availability and fit. Whether you’re a regular or a first-timer, our goal is to support your creative journey.

Building Community Beyond the Stage

fIf you don’t have a team yet, don’t worry. We’re here to help you build one.

Through our Starter Program and Slack community, we can connect you with other performers, promote your search, and help you launch something new. And if you want to perform but not produce, keep an eye out for Highwire Center events designed to bring performers together and spark new collaborations.

Paid Performances, No Strings Attached

We believe artists should be paid for their work. Every show at Highwire is a paid performance, with the current rate set at $45 per team for a 30-minute set.

We don’t require rehearsals, training, or a specific style of performance. You bring the show you want to create, and we’ll provide the space and the audience.

Why It Works

Our seasonal structure gives performers the flexibility to take breaks, try new formats, or create limited-run shows for special occasions. It also allows us to keep things fresh and ensure that every lineup delivers a vibrant and diverse night of improv.

Whether you’re an experienced indie team or someone just starting to shape their comedy voice, Highwire is here to support your vision with trust, transparency, and community at the center.
