Kevin McDonald to Visit Highwire for Workshops, Show

Highwire Improv welcomes Kids in the Hall founder Kevin McDonald for a special weekend of events June 13-14.

McDonald will teach a pair of workshops at The Highwire Center. These events will bring McDonald’s extensive experience to our community for a unique opportunity to get personalized feedback from a sketch comedy pioneer.

Sketch from Improv takes place from Noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 13. McDonald will share insights about how to turn improv scenes into sketches before working directly with participants on transforming scenes improvised during the workshop into sketch ideas. Learn how to build up the comedy, develop characters and create a story for a sketch in real time.

One Line Premise takes place from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 14. Bring your one-line comedic premise and McDonald will help you break it down and see how it can turn into a comedy sketch. Gain insights about developing an idea into a script in this writing workshop. After the workshop, students can write a sketch and get feedback via email from McDonald.

At 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 12, Creative Alliance will present An Evening with Kevin McDonald, a must-see show for fans of The Kids in the Hall!

This raucous stand-up show will feature stories from behind the scenes of the show. After the stories of comedy past, watch Kevin improvise with members of THE Highwire community in a hilarious, never-before-seen improv set to close the evening! Kevin has been touring with his storytelling and stand-up show throughout North America to rave reviews.

Best known as a founding member of the legendary Canadian sketch comedy troupe – Kids in the Hall – which appeared on CBS, HBO, and Comedy Central from 1989-1995. A revival season aired on Amazon Prime Video in 2022. In addition to the KITH, Kevin’s TV and film credits are numerous to include appearances on Seinfeld, That 70’s Show, and as a voice actor in the Lilo & Stitch franchise.
